About_450wIn 2007, Dr. Nicole Hagedorn was treating middle aged women with bio-identical hormone therapy and saw that many were diagnosed with mental health disorders like depression, anxiety, and memory loss. Visiting up to five different doctors and taking an array of psychotropic drugs, her clients were scared, disempowered, and desperate for relief. She knew they were not mentally ill. Taking the data to her husband, Dr. David Hagedorn, they realized that the root of the problem was biochemical midlife transition involving the interplay between the brain, gut, and hormone balance. What complicated this physiological triad further was a healthcare system that tended to compartmentalize symptoms and diseases rather than facilitate cross disciplinary assessment of bodily systems.

David started mapping the electric activity of Nicole’s clients’ brains and hearts. By combining Nicole’s hormone therapy along with David’s biofeedback tools, they found they could effectively address the imbalance evident in hormone and electrophysiology systems. Their results were so compelling they were soon being flown around the country to share their findings, but time and again, the technology proved too cumbersome for most clinical offices. After the Navy hired David to teach neuroscience to its medical residents, they again found the engineering too complicated to be practical on a ship, during deployment, or even in a hospital setting. The science and field research was clear: David and Nicole needed a smarter, easier-to-use machine.

After working day and night to treat patients in their new modality, they founded Evoke Neuroscience in 2009 and began developing revolutionary medical technology that is now in doctors’ offices around the country. With business partners and staff dedicated to the same cause, Evoke steadily grew its technology and success across the country. 2016’s Inc. magazine ranked Evoke Neuroscience No. 131 on its Inc. 500, an exclusive ranking of the nation’s fasted-growing private companies. Market leader in brain assessment and training, Evoke Neuroscience made the list by achieving a three-year growth rate of 2,638%.

Driven by scientific innovation and a deep desire to be of true service to the healing professions, the Hagedorns have become thought leaders in what it means to heal the whole person. Their approach starts with humility.

“We never assume we have all the answers. It excites us to search for more information, collaborate with other practitioners, and talk to other experts in the field. It requires a patient approach – we’re fully committed to improving a person’s sense of wholeness so they feel cared for. The goal is to reawaken hope and belief in the possibility of total wellness.”
